Never overpack, especially if you’re going on vacation. One or more souvenirs always find their way into a suitcase, so anyone who exceeds the allowed weight limit on the outbound trip and has trouble closing it is guaranteed to pay for excess baggage on the return trip. The substitute Bring a lightweight, foldable travel bag with you; you may use it as hand luggage on the way home after filling it with holiday mementos if necessary.
